Web to Introduce Chat Themes for Enhanced Customization

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will introduce chat themes to its web client. The update will allow users to personalize conversations directly from their browsers. This move aims to enhance the desktop experience and align it with the mobile version.

The chat themes feature has been available on smartphones for a long time. However, it has not yet been introduced to the web or desktop platform. With this upcoming update, WhatsApp plans to expand customization options for millions of users worldwide.

Chat themes will enable users to modify the appearance of their conversations. They will be able to select different colors and wallpapers. This feature will also support accessibility by offering themes that reduce eye strain. As a result, users can choose designs that are more comfortable for prolonged use.

In a future release, WhatsApp Web will allow users to set a default chat theme through its settings. These themes will change both the message bubble colors and background wallpapers. This will create a more consistent and visually appealing interface.

At present, WhatsApp Web allows users to apply wallpapers and doodle patterns. However, broader customization features are still unavailable. The introduction of chat themes will significantly enhance personalization on the platform.

The upcoming feature will also support chat-level customization. Users will be able to assign unique themes to individual conversations. This will help them visually distinguish between work and personal chats. For example, a professional conversation may use a simple theme, while a family group could have a vibrant design.

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on 49 chat theme options, including the default setting. Many of these themes will offer subtle variations in tone and intensity. Users can choose from multiple shades, including several blue-based themes such as Sky Blue and Royal Blue.

Importantly, these themes will remain visible only to the user who applies them. Other participants will not see any changes. This ensures that personalization remains private and does not affect the chat experience for others.

The feature is still under development, and WhatsApp continues to refine its functionality. Once testing is complete, the company is expected to release it to beta testers before a wider rollout. This update reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and maintain its position as a leading messaging platform.
