WhatsApp is working on a new security feature for Android users. The feature will allow real-time monitoring of linked device activity. It is currently under development and not yet available for beta testing.
The update is part of ongoing efforts by WhatsApp to improve linked device security. The platform already allows users to connect multiple devices for easier access.
However, increased flexibility has also raised security concerns. To address this, WhatsApp is introducing stronger monitoring tools.
Previously, WhatsApp added chat lock support for linked devices. This allowed users to secure conversations on companion devices with a passcode.
Real-Time Activity Tracking
The upcoming WhatsApp feature will show when linked devices are active. Currently, users must manually check the Linked Devices section.
That section only shows connected sessions and allows users to log out unknown devices. The new system will make this process faster and more transparent.
With real-time tracking, WhatsApp users will be able to see device activity instantly. This will reduce the need for repeated manual checks.
Security Alerts for Simultaneous Use
WhatsApp is also building a notification system for security alerts. Users will be notified when a linked device is active at the same time as the primary phone.
This will help users detect unusual or suspicious activity quickly. However, alerts will only appear when both devices are active simultaneously.
Normal usage of linked devices will not trigger notifications. This is designed to avoid unnecessary alerts.
Users will be able to enable this option through advanced privacy settings inside WhatsApp.
Protection Against Unauthorized Access
The feature is designed to improve protection against unauthorized access. For example, if WhatsApp Web remains active elsewhere, users may receive an alert.
This will help users identify if their account is being accessed from another location. They can then take immediate action.
Users will be able to review active sessions and log out unknown devices instantly.
Rollout Timeline
The feature is still being refined and tested internally. WhatsApp plans to release it in a future update.
The rollout will begin with a small group of users before expanding globally.
