Nana Patekar Dies After Cardiac Arrest
Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He died early Thursday morning, October 8, 2026. His death was confirmed by doctors at Manipal Hospital.
According to Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was brought to the hospital. Doctors performed continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 45 minutes, but they could not revive him. He was declared dead at around 5:20am.
A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Doctors have reported cardiac arrest as the immediate cause, while the post-mortem will provide further details.
A Career Spanning More Than Four Decades
Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar became one of the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema. His career began with the 1978 film Gaman, after which he built a reputation for intense performances, powerful dialogue delivery and memorable character roles.
Patekar was widely recognised for films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Natsamrat. He also worked as a director and remained active in Indian cinema in the later years of his career.
His performances earned him three National Film Awards and several other major honours. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.
Patekar continued working in films in recent years, including appearances in Housefull 5, O’Romeo and Subedar. His death marks the end of a long and influential career that left a lasting impact on both Hindi and Marathi cinema.
His passing has prompted tributes from across India’s political and film circles, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among those expressing condolences and remembering Patekar for his distinctive screen presence and versatility.
