US President Donald Trump said he believes the war against Iran could end “pretty soon,” expressing confidence that Tehran would not be able to sustain the conflict for much longer.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he did not think Iran could continue fighting for an extended period. He also defended the ongoing US military campaign, describing it as “extraordinary” and claiming it had caused significant damage to Iran’s military capabilities and efforts to develop nuclear weapons.
In a separate post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump praised US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying he was very pleased with his performance during the conflict.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized the United States, accusing Washington of following a failed strategy. In a post on X, he said the US had shifted from threatening major attacks to calling for negotiations, describing the approach as repeated dramatic diplomacy. He also urged Washington to honor previous ceasefire commitments.
The regional conflict also intensified along the Yemen-Saudi Arabia border. The Saudi military said Houthi attacks in the southern Najran region injured 11 civilians, including a four-year-old child.
The attacks came hours after the Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility for strikes in central and eastern Yemen. According to Yemeni officials, at least 30 government troops were killed and more than 50 others were injured in attacks targeting military camps in Marib and Hadramout provinces.
A Houthi leader claimed the strikes targeted Saudi-backed forces and alleged that hundreds of fighters had been killed or wounded. The latest developments highlight continued instability across the region despite growing international calls for diplomacy.
