TikTok Chooses 'Zindagi Tamasha' For Full Pakistani Film

TikTok has selected “Zindagi Tamasha” as the first full-length Pakistani film to be released on the platform, marking a significant achievement in the country’s entertainment sector, the platform announced on Tuesday.

Directed by renowned Pakistani actor, director, and producer Sarmad Khoosat, the 2019 film, translated as “Circus of Life,” follows a devout religious man who endures societal backlash for his effeminate dancing. The film explores the entrenched gender roles in Pakistani culture.

Despite its contentious nature, “Zindagi Tamasha” gained international acclaim, winning the Kim Ji-Seok Award at the Busan International Film Festival and the Snow Leopard Award for Best Film at the 6th Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles. It was also Pakistan’s official submission for the 93rd Academy Awards.

TikTok announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Khoosat Films, led by director Sarmad Khoosat, noting that “Zindagi Tamasha” will be the first full-length film available on the short-form video platform.

TikTok will serve as the film’s official entertainment partner, with the movie divided into 12-15 segments, each over a minute long. The premiere date on the platform is yet to be announced.

All movie-related content will be accessible under the hashtag #ZindagiTamasha on TikTok, simplifying user discovery and engagement. The release will include exclusive content from Khoosat and the film’s lead actors, enhancing the user experience.

Khoosat expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the film’s themes of kindness, tolerance, and peace. Saif Mujahid, Head of Content Operations and Marketing for Pakistan at TikTok, also expressed enthusiasm about showcasing Pakistani cinema on the platform, highlighting innovative in-app activations for user engagement.
