Three suspects have reportedly been detained in Rajasthan in connection with the shooting incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai, as investigators intensify efforts to identify those responsible for the attack.
According to Indian media reports, the suspects were picked up from the Railway Colony area of Kota on Monday, October 19. However, reports differ on whether they have been formally arrested or remain in custody.
The shooting took place on Sunday evening, October 18, near Pushpa Narsee Park in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Shroff reportedly escaped serious injury, while his driver and another person were injured.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of Bollywood celebrities, particularly amid reports of threats and extortion attempts allegedly involving criminal gangs.
Three Suspects Detained in Rajasthan
Mumbai Police have intensified their investigation following the shooting, which reportedly involved unidentified men arriving on a motorcycle and opening fire near the area where Shroff had attended a football session.
Media reports said the suspects were detained in Kota, Rajasthan, as police followed leads to track down the alleged attackers.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence and other information gathered from the crime scene. Spent cartridges were also reportedly recovered as part of the investigation.
Police initially registered a case against three unidentified men under charges including attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and offences under the Arms Act.
According to reports, approximately 15 police teams were formed to trace the suspects before the Crime Branch took over the investigation.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed all the details surrounding the detentions, and the identities of the suspects have yet to be officially established in the reports provided.
Attackers Allegedly Tracked Tiger Shroff’s Routine
Investigators suspect that the attackers may have monitored Shroff’s movements before carrying out the shooting.
According to reports attributed to ANI, the alleged gunmen knew that the actor played football in Juhu on Sundays. They reportedly waited for around 45 minutes outside the ground before opening fire as he returned to his vehicle.
The suspects allegedly fled on a Pulsar motorcycle, travelled along SV Road and abandoned the vehicle outside Andheri West railway station. They reportedly boarded a train towards Borivali.
Preliminary intelligence had suggested that the suspects subsequently travelled towards Gujarat, although the reported detention in Kota has added a new development to the investigation.
Police are continuing to examine the movements of the alleged attackers and determine how they planned the incident.
The exact sequence of events, the identities of those involved and the motive behind the shooting remain under investigation.
Tiger Shroff Praised for Taking Injured Driver to Hospital
While the investigation continues, Shroff has received praise on social media following reports that he personally drove his injured driver to seek medical assistance.
According to media reports, the actor moved into the driver’s seat after the shooting and drove towards Santacruz Police Station. Police then reportedly escorted the vehicle to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai’s Vile Parle area.
A video circulating on social media was reported to show Shroff switching seats and taking control of the vehicle following the incident.
The actor’s reported actions drew attention from fans, many of whom praised him for prioritising his driver’s safety during a frightening situation.
Shroff reportedly escaped without gunshot injuries. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the actor’s hands had been affected by gunpowder and flying glass.
The injured driver was identified in reports as Firdous Ibrahim, also referred to as Firdaus. He reportedly sustained a bullet wound to his left arm or wrist and was described as being in stable condition.
An autorickshaw driver identified as Chauhan was also reportedly injured. Both men received treatment at Nanavati Hospital.
Gunfire Near Juhu Football Ground
The incident reportedly occurred at around 7 pm on Sunday as Shroff was leaving a football session in Mumbai’s Juhu neighbourhood.
According to media reports, unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fired several rounds near Pushpa Narsee Park before fleeing the scene.
Initial estimates suggested that three or four rounds had been fired. Shinde later said five shots were fired during the attack.
The precise number of shots and the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain subject to the investigation.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly contacted Shroff following the shooting and assured him that authorities were working to apprehend those responsible.
The chief minister also sought a detailed report from Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
The incident has prompted renewed political debate over law and order in Mumbai, with opposition parties criticising the state government over security concerns.
Alleged Bishnoi Gang Claim Under Investigation
The shooting has also attracted attention after a social media post purportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack.
The post reportedly named Anil Pandit, described as a gang member, and Harman Sandhu in connection with the incident.
An audio recording circulating online allegedly featured a man identifying himself as Pandit claiming that Shroff had been targeted for defying the gang and continuing to work with Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The recording reportedly included threats against other members of the film industry associated with Khan.
However, police have not verified the authenticity of the social media post or the audio recording. Investigators have also not officially established a motive for the shooting.
The alleged claim has raised questions about whether the attack could be connected to the gang’s reported feud with Salman Khan. At this stage, any such connection remains unconfirmed.
Authorities are expected to examine the available evidence before determining whether the incident was linked to an organised extortion network or another motive.
Bollywood Industry Raises Security Concerns
The shooting has renewed concerns about the safety of celebrities and other people associated with India’s film industry.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned the incident and called for strong action against those responsible.
Its president, Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, reportedly warned that criminal gangs were attempting to intimidate Bollywood personalities and extort money from them.
The association urged the Maharashtra government to arrest the shooters and those who may have planned the attack, dismantle criminal networks and strengthen protection for actors and their families.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) also condemned the shooting and called for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation.
The incident has drawn comparisons with previous attacks and threats involving Bollywood personalities, including gunfire outside Salman Khan’s residence in April 2024 and reported attacks targeting other industry figures.
However, authorities have not confirmed that the shooting involving Shroff is connected to any of those incidents.
Investigation Continues as Police Seek Answers
The reported detention of three suspects marks a significant development in the investigation, but several questions remain unanswered.
Police are continuing to examine forensic evidence, CCTV footage and the suspects’ alleged movements to establish who carried out the shooting and whether anyone else was involved in planning it.
Authorities have yet to publicly verify the alleged gang claim or establish the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, Shroff’s reported decision to drive his injured driver for medical assistance has become a major talking point online, with fans praising the actor’s response during the emergency.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected as police work to establish the facts surrounding the shooting.
