The federal government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, announced on Wednesday an increase in the minimum basic salary from Rs32,000 to Rs37,000. This adjustment is part of a broader strategy to enhance the financial stability of government employees in the upcoming fiscal year.

Earlier, in a critical meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet approved the budget proposals for the fiscal year 2024-25. During this meeting, the federal cabinet sanctioned a substantial 25% salary increase for government employees. Specifically, employees in grades 1 to 16 are set to receive a 25% salary hike, while officers in grades 17 to 22 will see a 22% raise. Additionally, retired employees can expect a 15% increase in their pensions.
