Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar Raise Their Voices for Palestine

Sonam Kapoor, a Bollywood actress, is one of the few Indian celebrities who denounce Israel’s bombardment of Palestine. The actress posted two stories on her Instagram stories. One included an image with the statement, “Half of the people in Gaza are children.”

The second was a passage from an essay by Nicholas Kristof in the New York Times that criticised the one-sided indifference to Palestinian youngsters.

Most Twitter users lauded the ‘Aisha’ actress for taking a firm stand when Bollywood celebrities, including prominent Muslim actors, refused to speak out publicly against Israel’s atrocities towards Gaza.

Actress Swara Bhasker also denounced the barbaric assault on Palestinian citizens by Israeli terrorists and called out the hypocrisy of those who were “shocked” by the violence of the Hamas in a message posted to her Instagram stories.

“If you have not felt shock and horror at Israel’s unending atrocities on Palestinians, the forcible occupation of Palestinian homes, the forced evictions, the bigotry and violence of settler Israelis, the murder of Palestinian children and teenagers, the decades long blockade and bombing of Gaza and civilians in Gaza, including bombing of schools and hospitals (not to mention the apartheid and occupation), then I’m afraid your shock and horror at Hamas’ attacks on Israel seem a bit hypocritical.”
