The Sindh government has signed 16 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Chinese companies to attract investment to the province. The agreements were signed during the Sindh Investment and Trade Conference in Shanghai.
The conference aimed to introduce investment opportunities in Sindh to Chinese businesses and other international investors. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the event could help create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
He assured investors that the provincial government would provide security and one-window facilities. These services are intended to simplify investment procedures and make business operations easier.
Around 400 Representatives Attend Investment Conference
The conference, organized by the Sindh government, attracted around 400 representatives from more than 100 companies. Participants included businesses from China and several other countries.
Alongside the 16 MoUs, private sector companies also signed several agreements. These arrangements reflect efforts to encourage investment and strengthen commercial ties between Sindh and international businesses.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted several sectors where the province is seeking investment. These include Thar coal, electric vehicles, EV charging stations, wind and solar energy, agriculture, and digital development.
He also expressed hope that Karachi would achieve development comparable to Shanghai. His remarks highlighted the province’s ambitions for economic growth and improved urban development.
Sindh Highlights Economic and Energy Potential
The chief minister said Sindh contributes more than 27% to Pakistan’s national economy. He also discussed the opportunities available under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to Shah, the second phase focuses on industrial development, agriculture, minerals, and technology. These sectors are expected to remain important areas for cooperation between Pakistan and China.
He also highlighted the natural resources available in the province. The Thar region contains substantial deposits of coal and granite, offering opportunities for resource development.
Sindh’s wind corridor also has significant renewable energy potential. Shah said the corridor could generate more than 50,000 megawatts of electricity.
The provincial government is seeking investment across both traditional energy resources and renewable power projects. It is also promoting agriculture and digital development as potential areas for business expansion.
Dhabeji Special Economic Zone Presented to Investors
The conference showcased industrial and development projects worth billions of dollars. One of the highlighted projects was the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone.
The zone is a priority project under CPEC and covers more than 1,530 acres. It is intended to support industrial activity and attract investment to Sindh.
The project offers investors a 10-year income tax exemption and duty-free imports of machinery. These incentives are designed to reduce certain investment costs for eligible businesses.
The Sindh government presented these opportunities as part of its efforts to attract international investment. The conference also provided a platform for businesses to explore potential partnerships.
The signed MoUs and investment discussions could help establish future cooperation across several industries. However, the agreements’ financial value and implementation timelines were not specified in the available information.
