Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has announced a new minimum income of Dh20,000 for government employees, with the revised financial measures set to take effect from September.
The decision is expected to provide additional financial support to thousands of Emirati government employees and families receiving social assistance.
According to the official announcement, a total of 17,776 government employees will benefit from the salary adjustments.
The measures also include increased financial assistance for 6,652 families currently receiving social support in Sharjah.
Minimum income increased to Dh20,000
Under the new decision, the minimum income for eligible government employees in Sharjah has been raised to Dh20,000.
The salary adjustment is designed to strengthen the financial position of employees and help households manage increasing living costs.
The measure comes as families continue to face higher household expenses and financial pressures associated with inflation.
Officials said the latest steps are part of broader efforts to improve financial stability and support the wellbeing of citizens.
Thousands of employees to benefit
The salary adjustments will benefit 17,776 government employees, making the announcement a significant financial measure for Sharjah’s public-sector workforce.
Alongside the employee income increase, the government is also expanding financial assistance for families already receiving social support.
A total of 6,652 families will benefit from the increased assistance, providing additional support to households that require financial help.
The combined measures are aimed at strengthening household stability and easing some of the financial pressures faced by citizens.
Support extended to retirees
The new measures also cover retired Emirati citizens.
Officials said the minimum income for 2,251 retired citizens has been increased under the latest decision.
In addition, financial grants have been increased for another 5,300 retirees.
The measures are intended to provide greater financial security for retirees and help them manage household expenses following retirement.
By extending support beyond the active workforce, the Sharjah government has included different groups of citizens in its latest financial assistance measures.
Government urges responsible financial management
Alongside the financial support, Sheikh Sultan urged Emirati citizens to avoid unnecessary borrowing and manage their finances responsibly.
The advice comes as households face rising financial demands and emphasizes the importance of maintaining sustainable personal finances.
Officials said the broader measures are intended not only to provide immediate financial assistance but also to contribute to greater stability for citizens and their families.
Focus on families and children
The Sharjah government is also introducing measures aimed at supporting families and promoting the healthy upbringing and care of children.
The initiatives include facilities and support intended to help parents provide better care, nutrition and upbringing for their children.
Parents have also been encouraged to limit children’s use of mobile phones and other digital devices.
The focus on family wellbeing forms part of the wider measures announced alongside the financial support for employees, families and retirees.
Broader focus on citizen wellbeing
The latest announcement combines salary adjustments, increased social assistance and additional support for retirees with measures aimed at strengthening family wellbeing.
With the minimum income for government employees now set at Dh20,000, thousands of workers are expected to receive improved financial support from September.
