Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur has cancelled the academic records of 1,184 LLB candidates. The university declared their results, transcripts, and degrees invalid after an inquiry found unauthorized entries in its academic system.
The decision affects candidates from both the three-year and five-year LLB programmes. According to a university notification dated October 16, 2026, the cancelled records include 658 candidates from the three-year programme and 526 from the five-year programme.
The university took this action after reviewing examination records and investigating suspected irregularities. The inquiry concluded that the disputed academic records had been added without lawful authority.
Inquiry Examined Multiple LLB Batches
The decision follows resolutions passed by the university’s Syndicate during its 92nd meeting on April 11, 2026. An inquiry committee was subsequently formed to examine the relevant examination records.
The committee reviewed three-year LLB batches that passed in 2016, 2017, and 2018. It also examined records for the 2017 batch of the five-year LLB programme.
During the investigation, officials compared the university’s examination records with documents held by affiliated law colleges. The review identified several records suspected of being entered into the system without proper authorization.
Candidates Were Asked to Provide Evidence
Before finalizing its decision, the university gave affected candidates an opportunity to defend their academic records. In July, it published a final public notice on its website and in national newspapers.
The notice instructed candidates to submit supporting documents within 15 days. These documents were intended to establish the authenticity and legality of their academic records.
The inquiry committee then reviewed the applications and evidence submitted by candidates and affiliated colleges. Following this assessment, it determined that the disputed records were not part of the university’s lawful academic documentation.
Results, Transcripts and Degrees Declared Invalid
The university’s notification states that all academic documents based on the disputed records are invalid. These include examination results, transcripts, provisional certificates, degree certificates, and other related documents.
The notification describes the documents as invalid from the outset. It also states that they will not be recognized as academic documents lawfully issued by the university.
An attached list identifies the affected candidates and their affiliated law colleges. The institutions include colleges located in Jacobabad, Kandhkot, and Kashmore.
The university has sent copies of the notification to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Bar Council. The Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan bar councils have also received copies. Principals of the affiliated law colleges have been informed about the decision.
Previous Action Raises Further Concerns
According to media reports, SALU cancelled 1,280 LLB degrees last year. The latest decision adds to concerns about irregular academic records and the verification of qualifications in Pakistan.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) previously registered a case against 58 Capital Development Authority (CDA) employees over allegedly fake degrees. The Higher Education Commission has also faced calls to review university degrees across the country.
