Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has shared an unusual account from his younger days, recalling strange experiences in his bedroom at the Khan family’s longtime residence in Galaxy Apartments, Bandra, Mumbai.
The actor described flickering lights, cupboards that appeared to open on their own and a music system that switched on without anyone touching it. Salman said he often felt that someone or something was present in the room, although he never saw anything that could explain the sounds and incidents.
He shared the story during the season premiere of Koffee With Karan Season 9, while speaking with filmmaker and host Karan Johar about an encounter dating back to 1998.
The conversation offered a glimpse into Salman’s life before he became one of Bollywood’s most recognisable stars, while also revealing a strange personal experience that he said he could never fully explain.
Karan Johar Recalls Visiting Salman Khan in 1998
During the conversation, Karan Johar recalled visiting the sets of Salman’s film Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai in 1998.
According to Karan, Salman was working a shift from 2pm to 10pm. Karan arrived at the sets around 2pm, and later that evening, at approximately 9pm, Salman invited him to his home.
Karan was surprised by the modest size of Salman’s bedroom at Galaxy Apartments, particularly considering the actor’s growing fame at the time.
The room reportedly contained little more than a bed and a single cupboard. Salman was living in the flat with his parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, and his brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan.
Karan also recalled an amusing moment when Salman changed into yellow shorts after they entered the bedroom, leaving the filmmaker conscious of where he was looking.
However, the conversation soon moved beyond these memories when Salman began describing the unexplained incidents he associated with the room.
Salman Khan Says He Never Felt Alone in the Room
Salman told Karan that he did not believe he was always alone in his bedroom. He described sensing an unseen presence that he could hear but had never actually seen.
“I never stayed alone in that room. I always stayed there with somebody whom I had never seen, only heard,” the actor recalled.
According to Salman, several unusual things appeared to happen around the room. He said the lights would flicker when he came out, cupboards seemed to open by themselves, and the music system would switch on without anyone operating it.
He also recalled sensing movement outside the bathroom, as though someone were moving around and fiddling with the cupboards.
Salman explained that these repeated incidents led him to believe there might be someone or something in the room.
“That’s how I figured out there was somebody or something there,” he said.
The actor did not identify a definite cause for the incidents, leaving the experiences as a personal recollection of events he found difficult to explain.
Why Salman Khan Did Not Call the Room Haunted
When Karan asked whether Salman considered the bedroom haunted, the actor stopped short of describing it that way.
“Not haunting… but a presence was felt,” Salman said.
He explained that playing music seemed to make him feel the presence, prompting him to switch on the music and leave the room.
Salman also recalled that friends playing billiards outside the bedroom could hear sounds suggesting that someone was inside.
Despite the unusual experiences, the actor said he was not particularly frightened. His explanation was simple: whatever he believed was present had never harmed him.
“No, because it didn’t do anything,” he said.
Salman then added a humorous remark, saying his only request to the unseen presence was: “If you are a really beautiful woman, then reveal yourself to me.”
The comment brought a light-hearted moment to a conversation about experiences that Salman said had remained unexplained.
His account did not establish that a supernatural presence existed in the room. Instead, he described what he remembered hearing and observing, without offering a confirmed explanation for the flickering lights, moving cupboards or music system.
Galaxy Apartments Has Long Been Associated With the Khan Family
Galaxy Apartments in Bandra West, Mumbai, has been the Khan family’s home for decades and is closely associated with Salman’s public life.
The building is a familiar destination for fans, many of whom gather outside in the hope of catching a glimpse of the actor.
The residence has also attracted attention because of security concerns. On April 14, 2024, two men riding a motorcycle allegedly fired shots outside the building while Salman was reportedly at home.
Mumbai Police investigated the incident and alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The shooting brought renewed attention to security around the actor and his family’s residence. However, the incident is separate from the unusual bedroom experiences Salman described during his conversation with Karan.
Salman Khan’s Upcoming Film
On the professional front, Salman is set to appear in Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
The actor’s career has spanned decades, with his films and personal anecdotes continuing to attract considerable public interest.
His latest recollection from Galaxy Apartments has added another unusual story to the many memories associated with the actor’s life away from the screen.
While Salman did not provide a definitive explanation for what he experienced in his bedroom, his account has drawn attention because of the specific details he shared and the humorous way he described his response.
For now, the story remains the actor’s personal account of unexplained sounds and events from his younger days, rather than evidence confirming a haunting.
