The Punjab Wildlife Department has officially opened the waterfowl hunting season across the province. The season runs from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, under the department’s latest notification.
Hunters must follow specific rules and obtain valid permits before participating in the activity. The department has also restricted hunting to Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season.
These regulations aim to ensure that hunting takes place within the legal framework. Participants must comply with the prescribed limits and all applicable wildlife protection laws.
Hunting Permits and Weekend Restrictions
According to the notification, hunters must secure a valid shooting permit before hunting waterfowl. Hunting without the required permission will violate the department’s regulations.
The Punjab Wildlife Department has allowed hunting only on Saturdays and Sundays. This restriction applies throughout the announced season, which will end on March 31, 2027.
Hunters must also follow the bird limits specified under Schedule I of the Wildlife Act. Exceeding the permitted number of birds will be treated as an offence under the relevant laws.
The department has urged hunters to understand these requirements before visiting hunting sites. Compliance with permit conditions and hunting limits remains mandatory for all participants.
Hunting Completely Banned in Protected Areas
The department has imposed a complete ban on waterfowl hunting in all protected areas across Punjab. Hunters are prohibited from entering these areas for hunting activities.
Authorities have also banned hunting from vehicles. Participants must avoid damaging crops, private property, or other land while engaging in the activity.
The Punjab Wildlife Department has warned that violations can result in fines, imprisonment, or both. Penalties will depend on the applicable provisions of wildlife laws.
These restrictions are intended to regulate hunting activities and protect wildlife habitats. Hunters are expected to respect both environmental requirements and private property during the season.
Wildlife Authorities to Monitor Hunting Sites
Wildlife officials will closely monitor major hunting locations across Punjab during the season. The department has assigned enforcement responsibilities to Zonal, Regional, and District Wildlife Officers.
These officers will supervise hunting activities and check whether participants follow the notified rules. Their responsibilities include ensuring compliance with permit requirements, hunting schedules, and bird limits.
The monitoring process will continue throughout the six-month hunting season. Authorities will take action against individuals found violating the relevant regulations.
The department has also advised hunters to treat hunting as a sport rather than merely a way to obtain meat. This guidance reflects its emphasis on responsible participation and compliance with wildlife laws.
Hunters Urged to Follow Wildlife Regulations
The Punjab Wildlife Department has directed all hunters to follow the prescribed rules throughout the season. Participants should confirm that they hold valid permits and understand the restrictions before beginning any hunting activity.
Hunters must also respect protected areas and avoid exceeding the permitted bird limits. Following these requirements will help prevent legal violations during the season.
