The Punjab government has announced a major plan to distribute 50,000 tractors to farmers over the next three years. The initiative aims to support agricultural development and improve access to modern farming machinery across the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made the announcement during a meeting of the Punjab Agriculture Department. The meeting reviewed the progress of the Kissan Card program and discussed ongoing agricultural mechanization projects.
Speaking at the meeting, the chief minister said the government is committed to strengthening the farming sector through practical support. She described the upcoming tractor distribution as the largest program of its kind in Punjab.
According to the government, the initiative will help farmers increase productivity by making modern equipment more accessible. Better mechanization is expected to improve farming efficiency and reduce dependence on outdated methods.
Kissan Card Program Shows Strong Performance
Officials also presented an update on the Kissan Card program during the meeting.
They informed the chief minister that the Punjab government has disbursed Rs. 360 billion in interest-free loans to farmers through the scheme.
The briefing revealed that farmers have repaid 99 percent of the loans issued so far. Officials said this reflects the success of the program and the responsible use of financial assistance.
According to the meeting, nearly 80 percent of the borrowed funds were used to purchase fertilizer. This shows that most farmers invested the money directly into improving crop production.
Stable Urea Prices Benefit Farmers
Officials also shared information about fertilizer prices.
They said urea prices have remained stable for the past two and a quarter years. Stable prices have helped farmers manage production costs during recent growing seasons.
The government believes that affordable agricultural inputs are essential for improving crop yields and supporting rural communities.
Focus on Modern Agriculture
Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government will continue introducing programs that modernize agriculture and strengthen the farming sector.
She added that farmers play a key role in the economy and deserve continued support through financial assistance and improved access to machinery.
The new tractor distribution program is expected to become one of the largest agricultural support initiatives launched by the provincial government.
Officials believe the scheme will encourage greater use of modern farming techniques and improve productivity across Punjab.
