The Punjab government is considering another change to the schedule for Basant 2027, with officials now discussing a three-day festival in March instead of the previously proposed 10-day celebration.
According to government sources, consultations over the revised dates have been completed, and an official announcement could be made soon. However, the Punjab government has not yet issued a final confirmation.
The latest proposal would move Basant celebrations to a period shortly after Ramadan, marking another change to the festival’s schedule.
Basant Dates May Change Again
Basant 2027 has already gone through several proposed date changes.
The government initially announced plans to hold the festival in March. The schedule was later shifted to January 29 to February 7, with authorities approving a 10-day celebration in Lahore.
The latest proposal would reverse that decision and move the festival back to March while reducing its duration from 10 days to just three days.
If approved, the revised plan would mean Basant celebrations take place shortly after Ramadan.
However, the final dates have not yet been officially announced, meaning the current proposal could still change.
Government Consultations Completed
Government sources said consultations regarding the revised Basant schedule have already been completed.
Officials are now expected to announce the final dates once the relevant authorities complete the remaining formalities.
The proposed three-day format would represent a significant reduction from the previously approved 10-day celebration.
The change is being considered as the government continues to finalise arrangements for the festival and its timing.
Residents and Kite Makers Await Clarity
The repeated changes to the Basant schedule have created uncertainty among residents, kite makers and other people involved in preparations for the festival.
Kite makers, in particular, require sufficient time to prepare their products and plan their activities around the official celebration dates.
Residents and businesses also need clarity regarding the duration of the festival and the areas where celebrations will be permitted.
With another change now under consideration, people are waiting for the Punjab government to formally confirm whether Basant will return to a March schedule.
Earlier Plan Was for a 10-Day Festival
The previous proposal allowed Basant celebrations in Lahore to continue for 10 days, from January 29 to February 7.
That plan followed an earlier decision to hold the festival in March.
The latest proposal would therefore mark the third major adjustment to the proposed schedule.
Instead of a 10-day event during late January and early February, the government is now considering a shorter three-day festival in March.
The final decision will determine whether the earlier 10-day plan remains in place or is replaced by the shorter schedule.
Final Announcement Awaited
For now, the three-day March schedule remains a proposal rather than a confirmed decision.
The Punjab government is expected to issue an official announcement after completing the relevant process.
Until then, residents, kite makers and festival-related businesses may have to wait for clarity regarding the exact dates and duration of Basant 2027.
The latest development indicates that the government is still reviewing the festival schedule despite earlier approval for a 10-day celebration.
A formal notification will be required before the revised dates can be treated as final.
