PML-N leader Calls For Justice For Nawaz And Imran Ahead Of Elections

Senior PML-N leader Javed Latif called for justice to be served to ousted premiers Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan before the upcoming general elections in February. This would help determine which leader is in the best interests of the country.

Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, recently returned to the country after nearly four years in self-imposed exile due to his convictions in the Avenfield and Al-Aziza graft cases. He has served as the country’s prime minister on three occasions.

On the other hand, Imran Khan, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, assumed the Prime Minister’s Office in 2018 following a controversial election. He was removed from office through a vote of no-confidence in April 2022 after a tumultuous tenure marked by disputes with the opposition and the military establishment. He has also faced legal issues, including convictions in cases like Toshakhana and involvement in the cypher case.

Javed Latif, speaking at the Lahore Press Club, emphasized the importance of punishing wrongdoers, promoting respect for the vote, and ensuring that constitutional institutions operate within their defined boundaries. He stressed the need for a level playing field for all individuals contesting elections, while also discouraging support for incidents like the one that occurred on May 9.
