The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has revised the implementation of the five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme, allowing students to complete the full degree while paying tuition fees for only four years.
Under the revised arrangement, students enrolled in BDS programmes will continue their education for the full five-year duration, but the final year will be tuition-free.
The change comes through a new notification issued by PM&DC, which withdraws the council’s previous notification concerning the duration and fee structure of the BDS programme.
BDS Degree Will Continue for Five Years
PM&DC has clarified that the duration of the BDS programme has not been reduced.
Students will still be required to complete five years of dental education to obtain the degree. However, under the revised fee arrangement, tuition fees will only be charged for the first four years.
This means students will remain enrolled during the fifth year and continue their academic and clinical training without paying tuition fees for that final year.
The revised arrangement effectively separates the duration of the degree from the period during which tuition fees are charged.
Final Year of BDS to Be Tuition-Free
