The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its positive trend against the US dollar on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The local currency recorded its 266th consecutive day of gains against the dollar.
The PKR closed at Rs. 276.86 against the US dollar after gaining one paisa during the trading session. The currency has maintained its upward trend since December 25, 2025.
However, the rupee showed mixed performance against other major international currencies. The British pound returned to the Rs. 371 level, reflecting a notable increase against the local currency.
The latest exchange rate movements show that the rupee’s performance varied across different currencies. While it gained slightly against the US dollar, it lost ground against several other foreign currencies.
PKR Exchange Rate Against Major Currencies
The Pakistani rupee recorded losses against the British pound, Australian dollar, euro, and Canadian dollar on Wednesday.
The British pound increased by approximately Rs. 1.20 against the rupee. It reached Rs. 370.70, moving closer to the Rs. 371 mark.
The Australian dollar also strengthened against the local currency. It gained around 99 paisas to close at Rs. 194.52.
Meanwhile, the euro rose by approximately eight paisas against the PKR. It reached Rs. 310.65 at the close of trading.
The Canadian dollar also recorded an increase. It gained around three paisas to reach Rs. 197.00 against the Pakistani rupee.
The Malaysian ringgit and Chinese yuan also registered slight gains against the local currency. The ringgit closed at Rs. 67.85, while the yuan reached Rs. 41.46.
Rupee Gains Against UAE Dirham and Saudi Riyal
Despite losses against several major currencies, the PKR strengthened slightly against the UAE dirham and Saudi riyal.
The UAE dirham declined by approximately one paisa to close at Rs. 75.38. The Saudi riyal also fell by nearly one paisa to reach Rs. 73.80.
These movements indicate that the rupee’s performance remained mixed across international currency markets. Its slight gain against the US dollar continued the long-running positive streak.
Dollar Rate Remains Near Rs. 277
The US dollar closed at approximately Rs. 276.86 on October 21, remaining below the Rs. 277 level. The rate has changed only slightly over recent trading sessions.
The continued appreciation against the dollar marks an extended period of stability for the Pakistani currency. However, the rupee’s movement against other currencies shows that exchange rates continue to vary across markets.
Currency rates can affect import costs, international payments, overseas remittances, and travel expenses. Changes against the pound, euro, and Australian dollar may be particularly relevant for people making payments in those currencies.
