Pakistan registered an unwanted milestone in Test cricket after suffering their eighth consecutive away defeat, marking the longest losing streak on foreign soil in the country’s Test history.
The latest defeat came against the West Indies in the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. Pakistan lost by 90 runs, extending a poor run that began during the team’s tour of Australia in December 2023.
Pakistan’s overseas struggles started with a 3-0 whitewash in Australia during the 2023-24 Test series. The visitors lost the opening Test in Perth by 360 runs, followed by a 79-run defeat in Melbourne and an eight-wicket loss in Sydney.
The losing streak continued during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa in the 2024-25 season. The team narrowly lost the first Test in Centurion by two wickets before suffering a 10-wicket defeat in Cape Town.
Hopes of ending the poor run were dashed during Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh in May 2026. The visitors lost the first Test in Dhaka by 104 runs before another defeat by 78 runs in Sylhet.
The unwanted record was confirmed in Trinidad after Pakistan failed to chase a target of 211 against the West Indies. The visitors were bowled out for 120 in their second innings despite a fighting unbeaten half-century from returning captain Babar Azam.
Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 58 off 107 balls, hitting nine boundaries. Mohammad Abbas was the only other notable contributor with 23 runs as Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled against the West Indies pace attack.
Fast bowler Jayden Seales starred for the hosts with outstanding figures of five wickets for 20 runs. Kemar Roach and Justin Greaves claimed two wickets each, while Shamar Joseph took one wicket to help the West Indies secure a 90-run victory and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
The result extended Pakistan’s winless run in away Test matches to eight, highlighting the team’s continued difficulties in overseas conditions as they look to avoid another series defeat.
