Pakistan and Sudan have signed a visa-free travel agreement allowing holders of valid diplomatic and official passports from both countries to travel between the two nations without obtaining a visa.
The agreement was signed by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali. Both officials welcomed the arrangement, describing it as an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating official exchanges.
Who Can Travel Without a Visa?
Under the agreement, the visa exemption applies specifically to Pakistani and Sudanese citizens holding valid diplomatic or official passports.
This means that eligible passport holders will be able to enter the other country without going through the usual visa application process, subject to the applicable entry requirements.
The agreement does not announce visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders. Pakistani citizens travelling on regular passports should therefore continue to follow Sudan’s existing visa requirements unless a separate arrangement is introduced.
Agreement Aims to Facilitate Official Visits
The new arrangement is intended to make official visits and government-level engagements between Pakistan and Sudan easier.
By removing the visa requirement for eligible passport holders, both governments aim to reduce administrative hurdles for official delegations, government representatives and diplomatic personnel travelling between the two countries.
The agreement is also expected to support more frequent exchanges between government institutions and create opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ministers Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Relations
During the signing, both interior ministers highlighted the importance of maintaining friendly relations and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Sudan.
Sudanese Interior Minister Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali said the agreement would further strengthen the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to improving bilateral engagement and developing stronger institutional links through official exchanges and cooperation.
What the Agreement Means for Pakistani Travellers
For Pakistani citizens, the most important point is that the visa exemption is limited to diplomatic and official passport holders.
Ordinary Pakistani passport holders have not been included in the arrangement announced so far. They should not assume that the agreement allows general visa-free tourism, family visits, business trips or other private travel to Sudan.
The agreement is primarily designed to facilitate government and diplomatic engagement rather than introduce a broad travel exemption for the public.
A Step Toward Expanded Pakistan-Sudan Cooperation
The agreement reflects efforts by Pakistan and Sudan to strengthen their relationship through practical arrangements that make official communication and cooperation easier.
Facilitating the movement of authorised representatives can help both governments maintain closer contact, organise official meetings and support institutional collaboration.
Although the announcement does not introduce visa-free access for ordinary travellers, it establishes a framework for easier official travel between the two countries.
Further details about implementation, including the effective date and any additional procedural requirements, were not specified in the announcement.
