Pakistan has nearly 3 million full-time and part-time Freelancers, according to Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi.
The country’s Freelancers earned more than $1.76 billion through digital services during the last financial year.
Hashmi shared these figures while speaking at the first National Recognition Ceremony. The event was organised by the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA).
The governor described Freelancers as an important part of Pakistan’s growing digital workforce. He also highlighted their role in generating foreign exchange for the country.
Youth Can Support Pakistan’s Digital Economy
Hashmi said Pakistan has a large and growing youth population. He believes young people can play an important role in the country’s economic development.
However, he stressed the need for modern IT skills and practical training. He also highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship and market-focused education.
According to Hashmi, these skills can help young people find better employment opportunities. They can also encourage more youth to start their own businesses.
The governor said the federal government is working with the Governor House on youth development initiatives.
These initiatives are focused on improving skills among young people in Sindh. They also aim to expand employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Pakistan Targets $25 Billion in IT Exports
Hashmi also discussed Pakistan’s target of increasing IT exports to $25 billion by 2030.
He encouraged young people to learn skills connected with emerging technologies. He also urged them to prepare for competition in international markets.
The governor highlighted the Digital Youth Hub as another resource for young people. The platform was launched under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program.
It provides opportunities related to education, skills, employment and entrepreneurship.
Minister of State and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Fahd Haroon also attended the ceremony.
Haroon said the government was supporting efforts to expand freelancing across Pakistan. He added that youth participation in the digital economy remains important.
Demand for Technology Skills Expected to Rise
PAFLA President and CEO Dr. Imran Batada also spoke at the event.
He said technology is changing the nature of work around the world. He noted that several digital skills would become increasingly valuable.
These include artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity.
Batada said young people should prepare for these changes by developing relevant technical skills.
The ceremony also recognised Pakistani Freelancers for their international achievements.
Governor Hashmi presented shields to 45 Freelancers during the event. The awards recognised their international work and contributions to Pakistan’s digital economy.
