According to the most recent data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday, mobile phone imports in Pakistan exceeded Rs. 37 billion in September 2023.
The PBS data reveals that the September 2023 imports, totaling Rs. 37.1 billion, marked a significant increase of 13.3 percent compared to the Rs. 32.7 billion imports recorded in the preceding month, which is August 2023.
This surge in imports greatly outpaced the figures from the same month in the previous fiscal year (FY24), showing a remarkable growth of over 175 percent when contrasted with the imports of Rs. 13.46 billion in September 2022.

For the first three months of the current fiscal year, spanning from July to September in FY24, imports amounted to Rs. 88.95 billion, indicating a substantial rise of 147 percent in comparison to the Rs. 35.9 billion imports during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year, FY23.
When measured in terms of U.S. dollars, the imports in September amounted to $124.51 million, reflecting a 12 percent increase compared to the $111.34 million in imports during August 2023, and a substantial 113 percent growth compared to the $58.407 million recorded in September 2022.
In dollar terms, the cumulative imports from July to September in FY24 reached $304 million, signifying an impressive 89 percent rise when juxtaposed with the $160.2 million imports recorded during the same period in FY23.
