Microsoft has launched a new feature called Agent Mode for its Office applications. The feature is rolling out this week for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint users.
The new tool is designed to automate work inside Office apps. The Microsoft update allows users to complete tasks with minimal manual effort. It is part of the company’s growing focus on AI-driven productivity tools.
Microsoft describes Agent Mode as an advanced version of Copilot. It also refers to it as a step toward “vibe working,” where AI handles complex tasks directly.
In Microsoft Word, Agent Mode can write new content, rewrite existing text, and adjust tone. It can also reorganize documents for better structure and clarity.
In Microsoft Excel, the feature can edit spreadsheets, create formulas, build tables, and generate charts from raw data. This helps users work faster with large datasets.
In Microsoft PowerPoint, Agent Mode can update presentations automatically. It keeps slides aligned with company branding and design templates.
A key feature of the system is a live sidebar. It shows each action the AI takes in real time. This allows users to monitor changes as they happen.
According to Microsoft, earlier versions of Copilot were limited in their ability to edit files. They mostly responded to questions instead of making direct changes.
The company says recent improvements in reasoning and instruction handling made Agent Mode possible. These upgrades allow AI to manage multi-step tasks more effectively.
Early internal results show positive performance. Microsoft reported a 67 percent rise in Excel engagement after the rollout.
User satisfaction increased by 65 percent, while new user retention improved by 50 percent. These results suggest strong adoption among users.
The new Agent Mode is now available by default for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Premium users. It is also included in Personal and Family plans.
Microsoft has also shared future plans. The company aims to improve editing features for complex workflows. It also plans to increase transparency in document changes.
