Meezan Bank Crosses Rs. 3 Billion in Home Financing

Meezan Bank has surpassed PKR 3.05 billion in cumulative housing finance disbursements under the Government of Pakistan’s Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Programme – Ghar Ho Tu Apna, highlighting growing demand for affordable housing and Shariah-compliant financing in the country.

Through its Easy Home financing solution, the bank has helped 490 families purchase homes through 100% Shariah-compliant financing. The initiative is supporting the government’s efforts to increase access to affordable housing while promoting financial inclusion across Pakistan.

The latest milestone also reflects increasing interest in Islamic home financing, particularly among salaried individuals seeking housing solutions that comply with Shariah principles.

More Than 3,000 Applications Approved

Meezan Bank has approved more than 3,000 housing finance applications under the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme.

According to the bank, the cumulative approved financing amount for these applications has exceeded PKR 22.557 billion. The approved applications represent a significant pipeline of potential housing finance disbursements as customers complete the necessary procedures for purchasing or acquiring their properties.

The difference between the approved financing and the amount already disbursed reflects the ongoing process involved in property acquisition. Customers with approved applications can receive financing as they complete the required steps and meet the conditions associated with their home purchases.

The bank said the growing number of applications demonstrates strong demand for housing finance under the government-backed programme.

Shariah-Compliant Home Financing

Meezan Bank has positioned its Easy Home solution as a fully Shariah-compliant alternative for customers seeking housing finance.

The bank’s Islamic financing model is designed to provide customers with a home financing facility based on Shariah principles rather than conventional interest-based lending.

With housing costs continuing to represent a major financial challenge for many Pakistani families, access to structured financing can help eligible customers move closer to home ownership.

The bank said its nationwide branch network and dedicated housing finance teams are helping expand access to housing finance in different parts of the country.

This nationwide presence is particularly important for customers outside major metropolitan areas, where access to specialized financial services can sometimes be limited.

Growing Demand Among Salaried Individuals

The demand for Shariah-compliant housing finance has been particularly noticeable among salaried customers, according to Meezan Bank.

For many salaried individuals, purchasing a home requires long-term financial planning and access to structured financing. Government-backed housing programmes can potentially make the process more accessible by providing a framework through which eligible applicants can seek financing.

Meezan Bank said its participation in the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme reflects its broader commitment to supporting affordable home ownership.

The bank also emphasized the importance of providing customer-focused financial solutions while maintaining compliance with Islamic banking principles.

Bank Highlights Future Potential

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Group Head – Consumer Finance & Digital Banking at Meezan Bank, said affordable home ownership remains one of the bank’s key strategic priorities.

Commenting on the latest milestone, Siddiqui said surpassing PKR 3 billion in disbursements under the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme reflected the trust customers place in the bank and its commitment to providing Shariah-compliant housing finance.

He also highlighted the more than 3,000 approved applications currently in the pipeline.

According to Siddiqui, the bank intends to continue supporting the government’s affordable housing agenda and help more Pakistani families purchase homes through Islamic financing solutions.

Supporting Pakistan’s Housing Sector

Pakistan has faced a long-standing housing shortage, while rising construction and property costs have made home ownership increasingly difficult for many households.

Affordable housing programmes and housing finance facilities are therefore considered important tools for expanding home ownership opportunities.

Financial institutions participating in government-backed programmes can play a significant role by providing financing to eligible applicants and helping them complete property purchases.

Meezan Bank’s latest figures indicate that there is substantial demand for such financing. The approval of more than PKR 22.557 billion in housing finance applications suggests that thousands of customers are seeking support to purchase homes through the programme.

The bank’s PKR 3.05 billion in cumulative disbursements represents the financing already released to customers under the initiative.

Focus on Financial Inclusion

The development also highlights the role of Islamic banking in expanding financial inclusion in Pakistan.

By offering Shariah-compliant housing finance, banks can provide an alternative for customers who prefer Islamic financial products.

Meezan Bank said it remains focused on expanding access to affordable housing through customer-centric financing solutions while strengthening its housing finance portfolio.

The bank’s nationwide network and dedicated teams are expected to continue supporting customers throughout the application and property acquisition process.

Outlook for Home Financing

With thousands of applications already approved, Meezan Bank has significant potential for further housing finance disbursements under the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme.

As approved customers complete their property acquisition procedures, the bank’s cumulative disbursements could continue to increase.

The programme also provides an opportunity to expand access to formal housing finance among households that may otherwise struggle to purchase property through conventional means.

Meezan Bank’s latest milestone therefore highlights both the growing demand for affordable housing and the increasing role of Shariah-compliant financial products in Pakistan’s housing market.

With more than 3,000 approved applications in the pipeline and over PKR 22.557 billion in approved financing, the bank is positioned to continue contributing to the government’s affordable housing objectives while helping more families move toward home ownership.
