Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered a ban on permanently assigning police escorts to government officials and other individuals without proper authorization.
The directive aims to prevent the unauthorized use of police security by provincial cabinet members, lawmakers, government officers, and private individuals. It also restricts the use of official flags and flagstaffs on vehicles by people who are not legally entitled to them.
According to instructions issued by the Chief Minister’s Office on October 22, police escorts cannot be permanently assigned without valid approval. The order applies to members of the provincial cabinet, members of the provincial assembly, government officers, and private individuals.
The decision establishes clear restrictions on the use of police personnel for personal or official security purposes. Individuals must have proper authorization before receiving a permanent police escort.

Under the new instructions, unauthorized police escort arrangements must be discontinued. The order makes it clear that no individual can retain a permanent police escort without meeting the required authorization criteria.
The directive also addresses the misuse of official vehicle symbols. People who are not legally entitled to use flagstaffs or official flags must not display them on their vehicles.
These restrictions cover individuals who use such symbols without the necessary legal permission. The instructions reinforce the requirement to follow established rules governing police escorts and official vehicle designations.
The Chief Minister’s Office has directed the provincial police leadership to ensure that the new instructions are implemented immediately.
Inspector General of Police Ordered to Ensure Compliance
The Provincial Police Officer, who serves as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been assigned responsibility for enforcing the directive.
Police authorities have been instructed to review existing escort arrangements and identify deployments lacking valid authorization. Any police escort found operating without the required approval must be withdrawn.
The order requires immediate action to bring existing arrangements into compliance. Police officials are expected to ensure that security personnel are not permanently assigned to individuals without proper authorization.
The instructions also clarify that official flags and flagstaffs cannot be used freely by all government representatives or private citizens. Their use remains restricted to individuals who meet the applicable legal requirements.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s latest directive focuses on regulating police escort assignments and preventing unauthorized use of official vehicle symbols in Punjab.
The implementation of these instructions will depend on the provincial police administration. The IGP has been tasked with ensuring that the relevant departments follow the orders and remove unauthorized police escorts.
