ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Wednesday that a “force” from Gilgit-Baltistan was being used to attack Punjab police who were attempting to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.

The minister’s press conference comes as tensions between PTI workers and law enforcement forces escalated for the second day, as Punjab police attempted to arrest Imran after an Islamabad sessions court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.

Marriyum said that Imran desired “anarchy and turmoil across the country,” and that his arrest had nothing to do with the current government. She furthered that if the government chose to arrest him, they had state authorities in place, as well as the “same powers Imran used to jail his political opponents”.

In response to claims of a security bond in the case, the minister stated that the court issues a warrant and then orders relief, and that if it intended to offer relief, it would not jeopardise the lives of police officers.

She went on to say that Imran Khan was a “liar” and that there was no security bond in place.

Marriyum described the former prime minister as “a coward, foreign agent, Toshakhana and watch thief, Tyrrian White’s father and a criminal” who was in contempt of court and on the run from the police.

The minister went on to say that the Khan caste was bold and honest, and that Imran should not be given the surname “Khan,” but rather “jackal,” because Khans do not use the innocent as a shield.

She went on to say that Pakistanis should be aware that Imran was wanted in instances involving foreign money, Tyrrian White’s paternity, the Toshakhana case, and threatening a judge.
