The M-1 Motorway has been reopened for all kinds of traffic, restoring an important road connection between Islamabad and Peshawar.
According to the National Highways and Motorway Police, traffic has also been restored on the affected sections of the M-14 Islamabad-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and the E-35 Hazara Motorway.
The reopening means commuters can once again travel between Islamabad and Peshawar through the M-1. Traffic movement has also resumed on routes connecting Islamabad with Dera Ismail Khan and the Hazara region.
The M-1 motorway connects Islamabad with Peshawar and serves as one of the main transport links between Punjab, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The M-14 connects Hakla with Dera Ismail Khan, while the E-35 provides access towards Hazara and northern areas.
The motorways had been closed as part of security measures following concerns over the law and order situation. The closures had affected traffic movement between Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and caused difficulties for commuters and transporters.
Earlier, the National Highways and Motorway Police had announced that the currently closed motorways would be reopened at 6am on Saturday, September 27.
The Islamabad Traffic Police had announced the closure of several major routes on September 23. The M-1, M-14, Hazara Motorway and sections of the Grand Trunk Road were among the routes affected by the restrictions.
The closures were imposed from 11pm until further notice as authorities increased security arrangements in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
With the reopening of the major motorways, traffic between Islamabad and Peshawar has returned to normal on the M-1. The restoration of the M-14 and E-35 has also improved road access for travellers heading towards southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Hazara region.
Motorists have been advised to follow instructions issued by the National Highways and Motorway Police and remain cautious while travelling. Traffic conditions may change depending on security requirements and developments on major routes.
The reopening is expected to provide relief to commuters, public transport operators and freight vehicles that were affected by the temporary road closures.
