Lal Haveli of Sheikh Rashid’s ancestors is “totally sealed.”

RAWALPINDI: The Lal Haveli, the ancestral home of Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML) and a former interior minister, was sealed early on Monday.

Rashid said in a tweet that “bloodthirsty, who first shed blood of the government and now of Lal Haveli” had “totally shut the residence in the dark of the night.”

He added that the Lal Haveli, a house that is less than five marlas in size, is both his personal property and the administrative centre for the public sector.

He declared that he will discuss the matter at a news conference at his ancestral home today at 5 o’clock.

A heavy contingent of police and officers of the district administration were present while sealing the property.

The endowment department has sealed all its entrances with official locks and will start further legal action from today.

Asif Mehmood, the administrator of the Department of Abandoned Waqf Properties, said that the department has sealed seven units, including Lal Haveli, and has written to the authorities to confirm the registry of one unit of Rashid’s Rawalpindi residence.

He maintained that Lal Haveli is government land that has been occupied for a long time.

While the site was being sealed, a sizable number of police and district administration officers was there.

The endowment department has installed formal locks on all of its doors and will begin additional legal proceedings tomorrow.

The administrator of the Department of Abandoned Waqf Properties, Asif Mehmood, stated that the department has written to the authorities to validate the registry of one unit of Rashid’s Rawalpindi home and sealed seven properties, including Lal Haveli.

He insisted that Lal Haveli is government property and has been inhabited for a considerable amount of time.
