Lahore Traffic Police Updates Procedure For Learner's Licenses

In Lahore, the City Traffic Police has experienced an approximately 800 percent increase in the issuance of new driving licenses, with a large number of individuals applying for learner licenses amidst a rigorous crackdown by authorities. Responding to the high demand, the traffic police department has introduced a modification in the process for obtaining learner’s driving licenses.

Following the directives from Punjab police officials, learner’s licenses are now accessible at the front desks of police stations, providing added convenience to the public. This move is part of an effort to streamline the licensing procedure and enhance accessibility for applicants.

Regarding the driving license fee for 2023, the interim government has decided to significantly raise the fee for learner driving licenses. Lahore Traffic Police reported that the caretaker Punjab government has approved an increase of over 1500 percent, revising the rate from Rs60 to Rs1000. While the new rates will come into effect from January 1, 2024, applicants can still apply at the old fee until December 31.

The substantial fee hike has garnered criticism on social media, with individuals expressing concerns that it may discourage people from applying for licenses. In a related development, Lahore traffic police has increased penalties for learner’s permit holders, announcing a fine of Rs2,000 without registering cases against them.
