Lahore Traffic Police have announced strict action against commercial vehicle operators whose vehicles release smoke. The authorities plan to suspend route permits and driving licenses to help control smog and reduce air pollution.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said vehicles contributing to pollution would face stricter enforcement. He confirmed that driving licenses of people operating smoke-emitting vehicles could also be suspended.
The new measures aim to improve air quality and protect public health. Officials are increasing checks to identify vehicles that violate environmental and road safety requirements.
Lahore Traffic Police Increase Enforcement Against Polluting Vehicles
Lahore Traffic Police have intensified their campaign against vehicles contributing to air pollution. Special checkpoints have been established during late-night hours to identify smoke-emitting, overloaded, and poorly maintained vehicles.
According to the CTO, authorities have issued 9,998 traffic tickets to smoke-emitting vehicles. These actions are part of ongoing efforts to discourage vehicle owners from ignoring emission-related requirements.
Officials have also taken action against 22,241 vehicles operating without fitness certificates or remaining in poor condition. The campaign aims to ensure that vehicles meet basic safety and maintenance standards.
In addition, authorities have taken action against 233,476 vehicles for overloading. Another 6,745 vehicles transporting sand, soil, and other pollution-causing materials without protective covers have faced enforcement measures.
These figures highlight the scale of the traffic police campaign across Lahore. Officials are targeting several types of violations that can affect road safety and environmental conditions.
Uncovered Dump Trucks and Trolleys Face Restrictions
The CTO has announced that trolleys and dump trucks carrying sand or soil without protective covers will not be allowed to enter Lahore.
The restriction aims to prevent loose materials from spreading along roads and contributing to dust pollution. Uncovered loads can release dust into the air, particularly when vehicles travel through busy areas.
Authorities are also working with government and semi-government organizations to address vehicle maintenance problems. Letters have been sent to these organizations, requesting timely repairs and maintenance of smoke-emitting vehicles.
Officials expect these steps to encourage departments and vehicle operators to take greater responsibility for controlling emissions.
Stricter Measures Planned to Control Smog
Lahore Traffic Police officials have said enforcement activities will be strengthened further. The campaign focuses on reducing vehicle emissions and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
Smoke-emitting vehicles can worsen air quality and increase people’s exposure to harmful pollutants. Poorly maintained engines may also contribute to excessive emissions.
Authorities have stressed that strict enforcement is necessary to protect public health and safety. Commercial vehicle operators are being urged to maintain their vehicles and comply with traffic and environmental requirements.
The suspension of route permits and driving licenses could create additional consequences for operators who continue violating the rules. The measures are intended to discourage pollution-related violations and improve compliance.
