The Lahore City Traffic Police has launched a public awareness drive against smoke-emitting vehicles. The initiative aims to involve citizens in efforts against air pollution.
Under the new campaign, citizens can report vehicles producing excessive smoke. They have been asked to record videos of such vehicles.
The recorded videos can then be shared with the Lahore City Traffic Police through WhatsApp. Authorities will register the complaints and take further action against reported vehicles.
Citizens can send the videos to 0322-5638888. The traffic police has shared this number for reporting smoke-emitting vehicles.
The initiative focuses on public participation in controlling environmental pollution. Officials said maintaining a clean environment is both a legal requirement and a shared responsibility.
The latest campaign comes as Lahore continues preparations for the anti-smog season. Vehicle emissions remain one of the issues targeted under the city’s enforcement measures.
Earlier in July, Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi announced strict action against smoke-emitting vehicles. He said driving licences could be suspended for motorists violating anti-smog regulations.
The traffic authorities also announced action against commercial vehicles. Route permits could be suspended if commercial vehicles were found violating anti-smog rules.
Officials have stressed the need for stronger enforcement to reduce pollution levels. The measures are also intended to protect public health and the environment.
The Lahore City Traffic Police is also enforcing restrictions on vehicles carrying sand and soil. Tractor-trolleys and dumpers cannot enter the city without proper protective tarpaulin covers.
The restriction aims to prevent dust and other pollutants from spreading onto roads. Vehicles transporting construction materials are required to follow the specified safety measures.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, 1,013 cases have already been registered against violators. These cases were recorded during the ongoing anti-smog enforcement campaign.
The authorities have also expanded their enforcement presence across Lahore. Special teams have been deployed at 12 entry and exit points of the city.
In addition, 45 dedicated enforcement teams are conducting inspections at different locations. These teams are checking vehicles and taking action against violations.
The Lahore City Traffic Police has encouraged citizens to support these enforcement efforts. Public reports can help officials identify vehicles that may otherwise escape routine inspections.
The WhatsApp reporting facility provides another channel for citizens to alert authorities. However, people are expected to submit clear videos showing the reported vehicle.
Authorities will use the submitted information for registration and further action. The initiative therefore combines public reporting with existing enforcement operations.
The campaign is part of wider efforts to address smog and air pollution in Lahore. Officials have continued introducing measures targeting major sources of pollution.
