The Lahore Traffic Police intensified enforcement against smog and environmental violations during September, issuing more than 10,000 challan tickets across the city.
Officials said the September campaign recorded a major increase in enforcement activity compared with previous months. Operations increased by 215 percent from August levels and were 1,149 percent higher than the level recorded in January.
The enforcement campaign remains active across Lahore as authorities continue efforts to control pollution and reduce violations linked to smog. Traffic police teams are conducting checks at major entry and exit points of the city.
Commercial vehicles are also facing increased inspections as part of the campaign. Authorities are checking vehicles for violations that can contribute to air pollution and worsening smog conditions.
Senior police officers, including relevant SPs and DSPs, are supervising the enforcement operations in their respective areas. Officials are monitoring field activities and directing teams to ensure that checks continue across different parts of Lahore.
The latest campaign comes as Lahore and other parts of Punjab continue to face seasonal air pollution concerns. Traffic-related emissions are among the factors authorities monitor during smog-control operations.
The traffic police have continued to focus on enforcement rather than limiting the campaign to a single area. Entry and exit points are being monitored, while commercial vehicles are receiving particular attention due to their potential contribution to emissions.
The increase in enforcement activity during September also reflects a broader effort by authorities to improve compliance with environmental and traffic regulations. Drivers and vehicle operators found violating applicable rules may face challans and other legal action under the relevant regulations.
Officials have indicated that the campaign will continue, with field teams expected to maintain checks across Lahore. The traffic police are also monitoring enforcement figures to assess the progress of the ongoing operation.
With the smog season approaching, authorities are increasing attention on vehicles and activities that may contribute to deteriorating air quality. The Lahore Traffic Police are expected to continue inspections and enforcement in the coming weeks.
