Lahore Traffic Police launched a late-night crackdown against heavy and commercial vehicles across the city. The operation focused on major entry and exit points of Lahore.
More than 1,000 heavy vehicles faced action during the operation. Officials checked vehicles for valid licenses, fitness certificates, proper lighting, and safety requirements.
The crackdown was conducted following directions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The move aims to improve traffic management and strengthen road safety in Lahore.
Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi personally inspected several important locations. These included Shahdara Chowk, Barkat Puli, Imamia Colony Railway Crossing, and Sagian Bridge.
Traffic officials briefed the CTO about heavy traffic movement at these locations. They also discussed lane discipline and traffic management measures.
During the operation, authorities took action against 209 tractor-trolleys. These vehicles were carrying soil and sand without proper tarpaulin covers.
Officials also found 122 heavy vehicles without valid fitness certificates. Such vehicles were stopped because they failed to meet required safety standards.
Police registered cases against 16 drivers during the crackdown. These drivers were operating heavy machinery and trailers without valid driving licenses.
The operation also focused on overloaded vehicles. Authorities took action against 202 vehicles carrying fodder, hay, and steel bars beyond permitted limits.
Officials also stopped 144 unfit vehicles from entering the city. These vehicles were considered heavily smoke-emitting and unsuitable for road use.
In addition, traffic police issued challan tickets to 88 heavy vehicles and machines. The tickets were issued over excessive smoke emissions.
The Lahore Traffic Police said commercial vehicles must meet all required legal conditions. Vehicles without valid licenses and documents will not be allowed to enter Lahore.
Authorities also warned vehicles carrying sand, soil, and similar materials. Such vehicles must use proper tarpaulin covers during transportation.
The measures are aimed at reducing traffic violations and improving road safety. They may also help control pollution caused by heavy vehicles.
The operation highlights the authorities’ focus on regulating commercial traffic. Heavy vehicles can create safety risks when they are overloaded or poorly maintained.
The Lahore Traffic Police is expected to continue monitoring major entry points. Officials will check vehicles for documents, fitness, safety equipment, and other requirements.
Authorities have urged commercial vehicle operators to follow traffic regulations. Drivers are also expected to carry valid licenses and complete vehicle documents.
