Lahore is facing severe and prolonged load shedding as unannounced power outages continue across several parts of the city amid scorching weather, causing growing frustration among residents.
Citizens in Gulberg, Walton, Cavalry, the Walled City and Johar Town have reported repeated electricity cuts, with some areas facing hours-long outages during both the day and night.
Residents said the frequent interruptions have made daily life increasingly difficult as temperatures remain high and people struggle to cope without electricity for extended periods.
Lahore areas face prolonged outages
Several areas of Lahore have reportedly experienced up to five hours of unannounced load shedding.
Intermittent power cuts have particularly affected Gulberg, Cavalry and Walton, while forced outages have also been reported in Chungi Amar Sidhu and Shahdara.
Residents said electricity is sometimes restored for only around 30 minutes before being switched off again for nearly an hour.
The repeated cycle of short electricity supplies followed by lengthy outages has added to public frustration, particularly during late-night hours when residents are trying to sleep in the intense heat.
Citizens have demanded that the relevant authorities take immediate steps to ensure a more reliable power supply and prevent unannounced outages.
LESCO complaint lines reportedly unavailable
Residents facing prolonged power cuts have also complained about difficulties in contacting the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
According to reports, registered numbers of several LESCO subdivisions were not receiving calls, making it difficult for consumers to report outages or obtain information about restoration.
The lack of an effective communication channel has further increased public frustration.
Residents said they need clear information about the reasons for the outages and expected restoration times, particularly when power cuts continue for several hours.
Power crisis affects parts of Gujrat
The electricity crisis has also affected several areas of Gujrat.
Unannounced load shedding reportedly continued after the GEPCO system experienced a crash, leaving some localities without electricity for around four hours.
Citizens in affected areas expressed anger over the prolonged outages, particularly because of the sweltering weather.
Residents called on the authorities to restore electricity supplies and take steps to prevent repeated system failures.
Pirmahal residents face night-time outages
Pirmahal has also experienced unannounced load shedding, with residents reporting repeated electricity cuts during the night.
The city was reportedly plunged into darkness without prior notice, adding to difficulties for people already struggling with high temperatures.
Residents said the continued outages have caused significant inconvenience and urged the relevant authorities to address the electricity shortage.
Power disruption affects Baba Bulleh Shah Urs
The ongoing electricity crisis has also affected religious activities in Kasur.
A major power disruption was reported during the Urs celebrations of Baba Bulleh Shah, creating difficulties for pilgrims and devotees attending the annual event.
The outage caused distress among people gathered at the shrine and added to the challenges faced during the celebrations.
With power interruptions being reported across Lahore, Gujrat, Pirmahal and Kasur, citizens are demanding immediate action to restore reliable electricity supplies.
Residents have particularly urged authorities to avoid unannounced outages during periods of extreme heat and ensure that consumers have access to functioning complaint and information channels.
