Lahore has once again recorded the highest air pollution level among the world’s major cities, topping the global ranking with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 181 on Saturday.
According to the IQAir index, Lahore was followed by Singapore, which recorded an AQI of 177. Kuching ranked third with an AQI of 171, while India’s Kolkata was placed fourth with a reading of 168.
Several areas of Lahore recorded even higher pollution levels than the city’s overall AQI. Model Town reported an AQI of 211, making it one of the most affected areas. Paragon City recorded an AQI of 197, while Iqbal Town had an AQI of 190.
Other parts of the city also reported unhealthy air quality. The AQI in DHA Phase V was recorded at 171, while Chaman Park reported 165. Burki Road recorded an AQI of 162 and Bedian Road had a reading of 160.
The high pollution readings have again highlighted concerns about air quality in Lahore, particularly in areas where AQI levels have moved significantly above the citywide reading.
Meanwhile, Lahore’s weather remained warm and humid on Saturday. According to the Meteorological Department, the current temperature in the city was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C during the day. Humidity was recorded at 65 percent, while wind speeds are expected to remain between 3 and 5 kilometres per hour.
Weather experts said the combination of temperature and humidity is not expected to create a particularly strong sense of heat. No rainfall has been forecast for Lahore today.
The absence of rain could mean that the current air quality conditions remain a concern for residents, particularly in areas where pollution readings are already high.
Residents may continue to monitor local AQI readings, especially those living in areas reporting significantly higher pollution levels. The latest readings also show that air quality can vary considerably between different parts of the city.
