The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has stepped up efforts to strengthen the security of minority places of worship across the province. Secretary for Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs, Atta-ur-Rehman, chaired a high-level performance review meeting on Saturday to assess existing security arrangements and discuss additional measures aimed at ensuring the safety of minority communities. The initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to protecting religious freedom and maintaining a peaceful environment for all citizens.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including DIG Security Sajjad Khan, SSP Security Sanaullah Khan, and representatives from the Auqaf Department. Participants reviewed the current security situation at places of worship belonging to minority communities and examined ways to improve coordination between law enforcement agencies and the department responsible for religious affairs.
During the meeting, Secretary Atta-ur-Rehman directed officials to equip minority places of worship with modern security infrastructure. The proposed upgrades include the installation of CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, searchlights, and fire safety equipment. Authorities believe these measures will enhance surveillance, improve emergency preparedness, and strengthen the overall security of religious sites throughout the province.
The secretary also stressed the need for closer cooperation between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Auqaf Department to ensure the effective implementation of security plans. He instructed officials to maintain continuous communication and coordination so that any potential security concerns can be addressed promptly. The enhanced collaboration is expected to improve the protection of worshippers during religious gatherings and daily activities.
Officials said the primary objective of the initiative is to provide minority communities with a safe and peaceful environment in which they can freely practice their faith. The government aims to ensure that all places of worship receive appropriate security arrangements while promoting harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among different religious communities across the province.
Atta-ur-Rehman reaffirmed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government remains committed to safeguarding the lives, property, and religious freedoms of all citizens, with particular attention to the protection of minority communities. He said the provincial administration would continue taking every possible step to strengthen security measures and uphold the constitutional rights of every resident, regardless of their faith.
