KP Offers Interest-Free Loans for Media Startups

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has unveiled a new initiative to offer interest-free loans to media startups, with the goal of enabling young journalists to launch and manage their own platforms. The move is designed to encourage innovation in the media sector while reducing financial barriers for aspiring professionals.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi stated that the program is aligned with Imran Khan’s vision of fostering an independent and responsible media landscape. He emphasized that the government intends to provide tangible and practical assistance to journalists so they can operate without undue financial pressure or external influence.

According to the chief minister, the initiative will include a structured loan scheme that allows individuals and small teams to establish independent media houses, digital news platforms, and other communication channels. By supporting such ventures, the government hopes to diversify the media environment and promote a broader range of voices and perspectives.

Afridi highlighted that the program is also expected to generate employment opportunities for media professionals, technicians, and content creators. He noted that strengthening financial independence among journalists would ultimately contribute to more credible and unbiased reporting across the province.

In addition to financial support, the government is working on a wider development strategy that covers the media industry, information technology sector, and other related fields. This integrated approach aims to create a sustainable ecosystem where media and digital innovation can thrive together.

The chief minister further revealed plans to develop dedicated media colonies and upgrade press clubs, particularly in the merged districts. He said these measures reflect the government’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, promotion of independent journalism, and long-term socio-economic development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
