Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has made an incorrect claim about Australian cricket legend Sir Don Bradman. During a television discussion, Akmal said Bradman never hit a six in his Test career.
Akmal was discussing Bradman’s remarkable batting record when the show’s anchor questioned his statement. The anchor suggested that the legendary batter had hit around five or six sixes during his Test career.
However, Akmal disagreed and maintained that Bradman had not hit a single six in Test cricket. Cricket records show that the claim is incorrect.
According to ESPNcricinfo records, Bradman hit six sixes during his 52-Test career. Despite his limited use of aerial shots, the Australian batter managed to clear the boundary six times.
Bradman remains one of the greatest batters in cricket history. He scored 6,996 runs in Test cricket at an extraordinary average of 99.94.
His Test record also includes 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries. His remarkable consistency made him one of the most dominant players of his era.
Bradman was known for keeping the ball on the ground. He rarely relied on lofted shots, which explains why he hit relatively few sixes compared with many modern batters.
Interestingly, all six of Bradman’s Test sixes came against left-arm bowlers. Five of those sixes were scored against England, while the remaining one came against India.
Bradman’s first Test six came during the famous 1932-33 Bodyline series against England. He hit left-arm spinner Hedley Verity over the boundary in Adelaide.
The Australian legend then struck four sixes during the 1934 Ashes series in England. These shots accounted for most of the sixes he scored during his Test career.
Bradman’s sixth and final Test six came more than 13 years later. He hit India’s Vinoo Mankad for six during the 1947-48 Test series in Adelaide.
The record provides a clear answer to the claim made during the television discussion. While Bradman rarely hit sixes, he did manage to hit six in total.
Akmal’s comments have drawn attention because of Bradman’s legendary status in cricket. The Australian batter’s career remains widely studied because of his extraordinary statistical achievements.
