JD Vance Says Trump Seeks ‘Grand Bargain’ in Iran Strategy

US Vice President JD Vance has said that Donald Trump is aiming for a Grand Bargain with Iran instead of a limited agreement. His remarks came during a high-level event ahead of key diplomatic talks in Islamabad this week.

According to Vance, the United States is seeking a comprehensive deal that addresses major security concerns. The proposed Grand Bargain focuses on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. It also aims to stop what Washington describes as state-backed militancy.

Vance explained that earlier negotiations failed to produce results. He said this was because the US leadership is now pushing for a broader and more detailed agreement. Unlike past efforts, the current approach is not limited to short-term solutions.

The Vice President outlined two main conditions for the deal. First, Iran must permanently abandon any plans to develop nuclear weapons. Second, it must stop supporting militant groups in the region. These conditions form the core of the proposed Grand Bargain.

In return, the United States has offered economic incentives. Vance said that if Iran agrees to these terms, it could see economic growth and global engagement. He described the offer as a mix of security guarantees and economic opportunity.

Vance also revealed that Trump personally directed him to engage in diplomatic efforts. He confirmed that his visit to Pakistan is part of a wider strategy to open dialogue with Iran. These talks are being carried out in what he described as “good faith.”

However, he acknowledged that challenges remain. Vance noted that there is deep mistrust between Washington and Tehran. He said this distrust cannot be removed quickly and will require time and consistent efforts.

Despite these issues, Vance expressed cautious optimism. He pointed out that the situation on the ground remains relatively calm. He also mentioned that a ceasefire is holding, which creates space for continued dialogue.

The ongoing talks are seen as a critical moment in US-Iran relations. If successful, the Grand Bargain could reshape the regional security landscape. It may also open the door for long-term cooperation between the two sides.
