India–Pakistan Bilateral Sports Matches Remain Prohibited Under New Policy

The government of India has issued a new clarification on sports participation involving Pakistan. The decision focuses on future international and bilateral sporting events.

Under the new policy, India–Pakistan teams will not compete in bilateral sports series. However, participation will be allowed in multilateral tournaments.

Officials said the decision applies to both domestic and international venues. It reflects India’s current sports policy approach.

According to the sports ministry, India–Pakistan matches will only take place in multi-nation events. These events are organized by global sports bodies.

The ministry stated that its decisions align with international sports regulations. It also considers the interests of Indian athletes.

In its memorandum, the ministry explained that India–Pakistan sporting participation depends on event format. Bilateral series between the two countries will remain suspended.

However, both countries can still meet in tournaments involving multiple nations. This includes events hosted by international federations.

Officials added that visa procedures for athletes and officials will be simplified. This step aims to support smoother participation in global competitions.

The policy also includes multi-entry visas for international sports officials. This will help improve coordination during major sporting events.

India has been expanding its role as a host for global sports events. The country is preparing for future large-scale tournaments.

India is scheduled to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030. It has also submitted bids for the 2036 Olympic Games.

Additionally, bids have been made for the 2038 Asian Games in Ahmedabad. These plans are part of India’s long-term sports strategy.

Earlier this year, India co-hosted the T20 World Cup 2026. During the event, Pakistan played its matches in Sri Lanka.

The India–Pakistan sporting relationship has often been affected by political tensions. Cricket has been the most visible example of this rivalry.

Despite restrictions on bilateral matches, India confirmed that participation in global events will continue. The India–Pakistan sporting encounters will therefore depend on tournament structures.

Officials emphasized that the policy ensures consistency with international sports bodies. It also maintains opportunities for athletes in major competitions.
