Imran Khan Selects Ali Amin Gandapur For KP CM

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), facing challenges, emerged victorious in the 2024 elections in the northwestern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following the success, the party’s founder, Imran Khan, nominated Ali Amin Gandapur for the position of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Imran Khan, the 71-year-old former prime minister currently incarcerated since August of the previous year, officially communicated Gandapur’s nomination to journalists. In a formal conversation, Khan asserted that his party would not engage in negotiations with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahid Qoumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for a coalition government.

In the critical constituency of Dera Ismail Khan – NA-44, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, a stalwart of the PTI, secured victory by defeating Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Gandapur garnered 92,244 votes in this significant electoral battle.

Ali Amin Gandapur, a well-known politician, previously served as the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan from October 5, 2018, until April 10, 2022. His political journey includes a tenure as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018, during which he held the position of Provincial Minister for Revenue. Hailing from a politically influential Pashtun family in Dera Ismail Khan, his father, Major (retired) Aminullah Gandapur, has also been active in politics, while his brother, Sardar Faisal Amin Khan Gandapur, is also a participant in the political landscape.

Gandapur’s educational background encompasses schooling in Dera Ismail Khan and the provincial capital Peshawar. He pursued his BA (honors) from Gomal University, marking the beginning of his political career. In 2013, he entered the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Continuing his political ascent, he secured a seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA-38 during the 2018 polls.

The nomination of Ali Amin Gandapur for the role of Chief Minister reflects the PTI’s strategy to navigate the political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party’s resounding success in the elections and the selection of Gandapur underscore the shifting dynamics and political developments in the region.
