Imran Khan Faces Setback As Asad Umar Resigns From PTI

ISLAMABAD – A prominent figure within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has declared his permanent withdrawal from politics, dealing another setback to the imprisoned Imran Khan. He expressed gratitude to supporters and especially acknowledged the NA 54 team and voters who elected him twice.

Asad conveyed that he dedicated his utmost efforts to serving the constituency, and he wished Allah’s blessings upon the Pakistani nation. Earlier this year, he stepped down as the secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf after 17 months in the role.

With this decision, Asad Umar joins a list of PTI leaders who have left their positions following the crackdown after the events of May 9.

In a heartfelt social media post, Asad Umar, a close associate of Imran Khan now facing numerous cases, announced his departure. On a microblogging platform, the former finance minister stated that after over a decade in public life, he has decided to completely withdraw from politics. The 62-year-old mentioned his disagreement with the party’s policy of confrontation with state institutions, stating that these policies led to a serious clash with state institutions, which is not in the country’s interest. He declared his resignation from the basic membership of PTI.
