LAT 2026 Registration and Test Date
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has opened registration for the Law Admission Test (LAT) 2026 for students seeking admission to four-year LLB degree programmes in Pakistan.
According to the HEC Education Testing Council (ETC), candidates can submit their applications online until October 20, 2026. The LAT 2026 is tentatively scheduled to be held on November 15, 2026.
The test is mandatory for students seeking admission to four-year undergraduate LLB programmes at public and private universities and institutions recognised by HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council.
Who Can Apply for LAT 2026
Students who have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an equivalent qualification with at least 12 years of education can apply for the test.
Candidates who have appeared in their final HSSC or equivalent examinations and are waiting for their results are also eligible to register.
Students who have already passed the LAT can also appear again if they want to improve their scores for merit-based admission to public-sector universities and colleges.
LAT 2026 Test Pattern
The Law Admission Test will carry a total of 100 marks, while candidates will need at least 50 marks to pass.
The test will include an English essay worth 15 marks and a personal statement worth 10 marks. Both can be written in either English or Urdu, with each having a maximum limit of 200 words.
The remaining 75 marks will consist of multiple-choice questions. English and General Knowledge will carry 20 marks each, while Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies and Urdu will carry 10 marks each. Mathematics will carry five marks.
The English portion will cover areas such as synonyms, antonyms and prepositions. The Urdu section will focus on vocabulary, while the mathematics portion will test basic mathematical skills.
How to Apply
Candidates must apply online through the HEC Education Testing Council portal. Applicants are required to complete their profiles and registration details before formally submitting the application.
HEC has warned candidates that applications saved or left incomplete will not be considered. Applicants should carefully check their name, CNIC number, mobile number and other personal information before submitting the form.
Candidates must use their own CNIC and personal details. Registration through another person’s CNIC is not allowed.
Roll Number Slips and Test Centres
Candidates will be able to download their roll number slips through the ETC portal. HEC will also send the slips to registered email addresses around one week before the test.
Applicants should provide an active mobile number and valid email address because important information about the test will also be communicated through SMS and email.
The LAT will be conducted in major cities across Pakistan. Candidates can select their preferred test centre during registration, but the centre cannot be changed after the application is submitted.
HEC may assign candidates to another city or test centre if fewer than 250 applicants choose a particular location.
Important Instructions for Candidates
Candidates must bring a printed roll number slip and their original CNIC or passport to the examination centre. Applicants under 18 must bring their original B-Form or NADRA Juvenile Card along with their original SSC or HSSC certificate carrying their photograph.
Mobile phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed inside the test centres. This includes calculators, recording devices, communication equipment and imaging devices.
Candidates are also prohibited from taking, uploading or sharing photographs of question papers or answer sheets.
HEC’s Education Testing Council conducts the LAT quarterly in major cities across Pakistan. Students planning to pursue an LLB degree should complete their registration before the October 20 deadline and regularly check the ETC portal for updates regarding the test and roll number slips.
