Germany Signals Major New Opportunities for Pakistan

Germany is seeking to strengthen its economic and business relationship with Pakistan. German Ambassador Ina Lepel reaffirmed Berlin’s interest in closer cooperation with Pakistani businesses.

Lepel discussed the issue during a meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday. The meeting focused on economic developments, investment opportunities and business cooperation between the two countries.

The German ambassador also congratulated Pakistan on its recent sovereign credit rating upgrade by Moody’s. She said the improved rating showed growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook.

Lepel also recognized Pakistan’s progress on economic reforms. She noted that the country had continued its efforts despite regional geopolitical challenges.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted recent improvements in Pakistan’s foreign exchange buffers. He also outlined the government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline.

Aurangzeb said Pakistan remains focused on maintaining economic stability. He added that structural reforms are also being pursued to support long-term growth.

The finance minister stressed the importance of creating a better environment for investment. He said policy continuity and easier business procedures are important for attracting foreign investors.

The two sides also discussed German multinational companies currently operating in Pakistan. They explored opportunities for expanding business activity and cooperation between companies from both countries.

Aurangzeb also briefed the German ambassador about reforms at the Federal Board of Revenue. He highlighted the government’s efforts to digitalize tax administration.

According to the minister, technology-based reforms can improve tax collection and administration. They can also strengthen transparency and increase efficiency within the tax system.

The German ambassador welcomed Pakistan’s economic stabilization efforts. She also appreciated the government’s reform agenda and expressed support for stronger bilateral economic ties.

Germany also invited Finance Minister Aurangzeb to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business. The event will take place in Seoul later this year.
