People applying for driving licenses in Lahore can now obtain medical fitness certificates free of cost from 13 government hospitals. The initiative has been introduced to make the licensing process easier for applicants who are required to submit medical fitness certificates.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said dedicated medical counters have been established at the designated government hospitals. These counters will provide medical fitness certificates to eligible applicants without charging a fee.
The facility is particularly important for people applying for commercial driving licenses and applicants above the age of 50. Medical fitness certificates are mandatory for these categories before they can complete the driving license process.
The designated hospitals include DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar, Government Hospital Samanabad, Government General Hospital Qila Gujjar Singh and Government General Hospital Shahdara.
Other hospitals included in the initiative are Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bilal Ganj, Government Hospital Sodiwal, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kahna, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Raiwind and Government Eye and General Hospital Swami Nagar in Shalimar.
The establishment of free medical counters is expected to reduce the financial burden on applicants and provide them with an official channel to complete the medical requirement. Applicants who fall under the mandatory medical fitness categories can visit the designated hospitals to obtain their certificates.
Authorities are also working to introduce a digital verification system for the certificates. Under the proposed system, hospitals will upload medical fitness certificates directly to the Health Department’s online portal.
The digital system is expected to make the verification process faster and more convenient. It will also allow authorities to check certificates electronically during the driving license application process.
Officials said the system would help reduce the chances of fraudulent or fake medical certificates being used. Direct uploading by government hospitals will provide authorities with a more reliable way to confirm whether a certificate was genuinely issued.
The initiative is part of efforts to simplify the driving license process and improve coordination between traffic authorities and government health facilities. By providing the medical certificates free of cost and moving verification online, authorities aim to make the process more accessible for applicants.
Applicants are advised to visit one of the designated government hospitals for the medical fitness requirement if it applies to their driving license category or age. The free facility is currently focused on the specified hospitals in Lahore.
