The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has officially opened applications for the Central Superior Services (CSS) MCQ-based Preliminary Test (MPT), marking the beginning of the recruitment process for one of Pakistan’s most competitive civil service examinations. The commission has announced that August 20, 2026, is the final date for submitting online applications, while the nationwide screening examination will be conducted on September 27, 2026.
The announcement provides aspiring civil servants with a clear timeline for the first stage of the CSS examination process. The MCQ-based Preliminary Test is a mandatory screening examination that candidates must pass before becoming eligible to appear in the CSS main written examination.
Online Applications Now Open
According to the FPSC, candidates can now submit their applications through the commission’s official online portal. The application process will remain open until August 20, after which no new applications will be accepted.
The commission has advised applicants to complete the registration process well before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues or delays. Candidates are also encouraged to carefully review all eligibility requirements and instructions before submitting their applications.
FPSC emphasized that only applications submitted through its online system within the prescribed deadline will be considered for the preliminary examination.
CSS MPT Scheduled for September 27
The commission has confirmed that the CSS MCQ-based Preliminary Test (MPT) will be held across Pakistan on September 27, 2026.
The examination will take place simultaneously in 19 cities, enabling candidates from different parts of the country to appear at examination centres nearest to them.
To facilitate applicants, FPSC allows candidates to choose their preferred examination centre while completing the online application. However, the commission has made it clear that once an examination centre is selected and the application is submitted, no changes will be allowed.
Candidates are therefore advised to select their preferred city carefully before finalizing the application.
Screening Test Mandatory for CSS Written Exam
The FPSC reiterated that passing the MCQ-based Preliminary Test is a compulsory requirement for appearing in the CSS main written examination.
Introduced as a screening mechanism, the MPT is designed to assess candidates’ general knowledge, analytical skills, reasoning ability, and understanding of various subjects before they proceed to the comprehensive written examination.
Only candidates who successfully qualify in the preliminary examination will be permitted to register for the next stage of the CSS competitive examination.
The commission noted that clearing the MPT does not guarantee selection for the civil service. Instead, it simply determines eligibility for the written examination, which remains the primary competitive stage of the CSS recruitment process.
Educational Qualification
FPSC has once again reminded applicants of the minimum educational requirements for appearing in the CSS examination.
Candidates must possess at least a Second Division Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institution. Applicants who fail to meet this educational criterion will not be considered eligible for the competitive examination.
The commission advises prospective candidates to ensure all academic credentials are complete and accurate before applying.

Candidates who qualify the MPT must then prepare for the extensive written examination, followed by psychological assessment, medical examination, and interviews before final allocation to various civil service groups.

The commission has urged applicants not to wait until the final days before the deadline, warning that heavy online traffic may cause delays in submitting applications.
Candidates are also advised to regularly visit the FPSC website for any updates regarding examination schedules, instructions, or changes to the application process.
