Faisalabad is preparing to introduce a new digital public transport system aimed at improving urban travel across the division. The initiative will include a mobile application with real-time vehicle tracking and an electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping network.
The project was announced by Commissioner Faisalabad and President of the Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS), Imran Hamid Sheikh. He said the new Faisalabad Public Transport App will bring government and private transport services together on one digital platform.
The app will cover public transport services operating across the four districts of the division. It is designed to make commuting easier by giving passengers access to live transport information from a single source.
Users will be able to track government buses, metro buses, electric buses, and registered urban Hiace vehicles in real time. This feature will help passengers know where their vehicle is before leaving for a stop. It is also expected to reduce waiting times and improve travel planning.
The application will include a route planning feature. Commuters can search for the best travel routes, view transfer points, and check estimated arrival times. These tools are intended to help passengers complete their journeys more efficiently.
According to the commissioner, the app will be available free of charge. It will also support the digital registration of public transport vehicles. This process will be linked with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to improve record management and registration procedures.
Transport operators are expected to begin registering their vehicles within the next 15 days to one month. After the registration process is completed, authorities plan to launch the application for public use.
Officials believe the project will modernize public transport services in Faisalabad through the use of digital technology. Bringing different transport services onto one platform will make it easier for passengers to access reliable travel information.
The plan also includes an EV battery-swapping network. This system is expected to support electric vehicles by allowing batteries to be exchanged instead of waiting for long charging sessions. The initiative could encourage the wider use of electric transport in the city.
The commissioner said the platform will be the first fully integrated digital public transport system in Faisalabad. He added that it could also become the first project of its kind in Punjab and Pakistan.
Authorities have described the initiative as an important step toward smarter urban mobility. The combination of live vehicle tracking, route planning, digital registration, and EV support is expected to improve the overall travel experience for residents.
