The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has announced plans to expand Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das Ji in Lahore. The project aims to provide more space and better facilities for Sikh pilgrims visiting the religious site.
The gurdwara is located in Chuna Mandi, Lahore, and holds religious significance for the Sikh community. The expansion is intended to make religious ceremonies and worship more convenient for visiting devotees.
ETPB Secretary Nasir Mushtaq announced the plan during a ceremony attended by Sikh pilgrims and community representatives. He also invited Sikh devotees from India and other countries to visit Pakistan for the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Ram Das Ji.
Mushtaq said the board remained committed to welcoming Sikh pilgrims and providing them with suitable facilities during their visits. He highlighted the importance of supporting religious tourism and preserving Sikh heritage sites.
Additional Land to Increase Gurdwara Space
According to the announcement, approximately 13 marlas of commercial land beside the gurdwara will be incorporated into its premises. The additional space will support worship and other religious activities.
The expansion is intended to help pilgrims perform their religious rituals with greater comfort. It will also provide more room for devotees visiting the site during important religious occasions.
Mushtaq said the initiative reflected the board’s commitment to maintaining and developing Sikh religious places in Pakistan. He added that ETPB Chairman Qamar-uz-Zaman had directed the board to give special attention to these sites.
The board considers gurdwaras and other religious locations an important part of Pakistan’s cultural and historical heritage. Their protection and development remain among its priorities.
Sikh Pilgrims From Several Countries Attend Ceremony
The ceremony was organized under the supervision of the Evacuee Trust Property Board. Sikh pilgrims from different parts of Pakistan attended the event, along with devotees from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Secretary General Satwant Kaur also attended the ceremony. Other participants included Sardar Tara Singh, Dr Mempal Singh, and several Sikh community leaders.
During his address, Mushtaq highlighted the teachings of Guru Ram Das Ji. He said these teachings promote love, peace, brotherhood, equality, and service to humanity.
He also described Guru Ram Das Ji’s birth in Lahore as a source of pride for Pakistan. The remarks highlighted the historical connection between the city and the Sikh community.
Facilities for Sikh Pilgrims in Pakistan
The ETPB has made arrangements to support Sikh pilgrims visiting religious sites across Pakistan. According to officials, these facilities include free accommodation, langar, medical assistance, and special security measures.
These arrangements are intended to help visitors complete their religious journeys safely and comfortably. The board has also emphasized the importance of protecting religious sites and improving facilities for devotees.
Members of the Sikh community welcomed the expansion plan and expressed appreciation to the ETPB chairman and secretary. The initiative is expected to provide additional space for worship and improve facilities at Gurdwara Janam Asthan Guru Ram Das Ji.
