ISLAMABAD: On December 18 (Monday), the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to consider the plea filed by PTI founding member Akbar S. Babar against intra-party elections.

Key individuals filing applications against PTI’s intra-party polls include Akbar S. Babar, Raja Tahir Nawaz, and Naureen Farooq.

The ECP has summoned PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan in the intra-party election case, along with the party’s chief election commissioner Niazullah Niazi, Umar Ayub, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Yasmin Rashid, Ali Amin Gandapur, and RO central secretariat Sardar Masroof.

Notices were also issued to Returning Officer Central Secretariat Sardar Masroof Khan and Returning Officer Ansar Mahmood in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Secretariat.

Akbar S. Babar, PTI’s founding member, characterized the intra-party polls as a drama in a video statement. He stated that PTI has jeopardized the party and the election symbol of the ‘bat.’

It’s worth noting that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was elected unopposed as the party’s new chairman, replacing incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan.

PTI intra-party polls were conducted last Saturday as directed by the ECP. Voters exercised their right to vote through an online app.

According to PTI election commissioner Niazullah Niazi, former federal minister Omar Ayub Khan was elected as the party’s secretary-general, while jailed former provincial health minister Yasmin Rashid was elected as the party’s Punjab president.
