Chinese EV Battery Charges From 10% to 98% in Just Over 6 Minutes

A major breakthrough in battery technology has been introduced in the Chinese EV industry. The innovation comes from Chinese battery giant CATL, which has developed an ultra-fast charging electric vehicle battery.

The new Shenxing battery is designed for next-generation Chinese EV models. It uses lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) technology. The company claims it can charge from 10% to 98% in just six minutes and 27 seconds.

This development is seen as a major step forward for the Chinese EV market. One of the biggest challenges for electric vehicles has been long charging times. This new battery aims to solve that problem.

According to the company, the battery can reach 80% charge in under four minutes. It can also gain up to 35% charge in less than one minute. These speeds are significantly faster than most existing EV batteries.

The performance of the Shenxing battery has also been tested in extreme conditions. During Arctic trials at -30°C, it charged from 10% to 98% in about nine minutes. This shows strong reliability for Chinese EV usage in harsh climates.

CATL CEO Robin Zeng explained that the breakthrough was achieved by reducing internal electrical resistance. The resistance level has been lowered to just 0.25 milliohms, which is the lowest in any commercial battery.

The improvement is expected to boost global demand for Chinese EV technology. Faster charging makes electric vehicles more practical for daily use. It also reduces one of the key concerns for consumers.

Industry experts say this innovation could help Chinese EV manufacturers compete more strongly in global markets. Charging times are now approaching the speed of traditional fuel refuelling.

The development also intensifies competition in the electric vehicle battery sector. Companies like BYD have previously set fast-charging records, but CATL’s new battery goes further.

The advancement is expected to accelerate EV adoption worldwide. It supports the long-term goal of shifting away from fossil fuels.
